Belongs within: Carabodidae.

The type subgenus of the genus Austrocarabodes is a cosmopolitan group of generalised carabodid oribatid mites.

Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Body not noticeably elongate. Prodorsum with wide lamellae. Notogaster evenly arched; notogastral setae long; humeral region without setae. Genital plates with four pairs of setae.
