Cleoniceratidae

Cleoniceras besairei, from Antonov.

Belongs within: Pachydiscidae.

The Cleoniceratidae are a Lower Cretaceous (Lower Albian) lineage of ammonites (Wright et al. 1996).

Characters (from Wright et al. 1996): Round-whorled to compressed and high-whorled; venter rounded, subtabulate, or acute; ribs Y-shaped to falcoid; primaries single or branching at umbilical edge, with or without umbilical bullae, branching again at midflank or beyond; some forms secondarily smooth; constrictions present throughout or absent, commonly several close together before aperture. Microconchs small, commonly with venter of body chamber broadening and coiling inward; macroconchs rather large, with ornament weakening on outer whorl. Suture with wide, more or less asymmetrical L and up to six auxiliary lobes in high-whorled forms.
