The Cleroidea are a clade of beetles supported by molecular data, as well as by the structure of the aedeagus in males (McKenna et al. 2015). Representatives include the Prionoceridae, an Old World family of elongate beetles with soft elytra, pentamerous tarsi and, in males, a comb on the inner edge of the fifth fore-tarsal segment.
