Gelidiaceae

Gelidium spinosum, copyright Svenja Heesch.

Belongs within: Gelidiales.

The Gelidiaceae are marine red algae characterised by internal thick-walled refractive rhizines, the endogenous production of rhizoidal filaments from inner cortical cells that form brush-like haptera, a triphasic isomorphic life history, and bilocular cystocarps with an ostiole on each side (Boo et al. 2016).
