Hermanniella sp., photographed by Pfliegler Walter.

Belongs within: Brachypylina.
Contains: Hermanniella.

The Hermanniellidae are a group of oribatid mites in which the tritonymphal scalp adheres very closely to the adult. In genera other than Hermanniella and Mahunkobates, the bothridia have become closely placed to each other and more or less removed from the prodorsal margin. The Venezuelan Mahunkobates singularis has the posteromarginal setae on the notogaster spiniform and ciliate, in contrast to the setiform and smooth setae on the remainder of the notogaster, and the more uniform notogastral setae in most species of Hermanniella (Balogh & Balogh 1992).

The Plasmobatidae are a pantropical group of oribatid mites in which the notogaster bears large lateral apophyses carrying the opisthonotal glands.
