Hypochrysops

Hypochrysops, the jewels, is a primarily Australasian genus of butterflies whose larvae feed on a wide range of plant families, some even on ferns. Larvae of most species are attended by ants but those of H. byzosH. polycletus and H. pythias are not (Braby 2000b).

Characters (from Braby 2000b): Antenna more than half as long as costa of fore wing; eye smooth; fore wing with eleven veins, radial branches R4 and R5 fused into single vein R4+5; hind wing with termen evenly rounded with tails, often slightly dentate at ends of veins, rarely squared or lobed at tornus; male lacking sex-scales.
