The section Poiophylli of the genus Juncus includes grassy-leaved rushes that may be mistaken for true grasses (Healy & Edgar 1980).

Characters (from Healy & Edgar 1980): Plant tufted or rhizomatous; stems usually leafy, rarely only basal sheaths present; leaves flat or channelled, rarely cylindrical; inflorescence terminal.
