Belongs within: Cecidomyiidae.

The Lestremiinae are a group of cecidomyiid midges with mycophagous larvae (Gagné 1981).

Characters (from Gagné 1981): Ocelli usually present. Wings, if present, with vein M1+2 present. Five tarsomeres, with tarsomere 1 longer than 2.
