Probable Tullbergia, copyright Andy Murray.

Belongs within: Collembola.
Contains: Onychiurus.

The Onychiuridae are a family of springtails bearing pseudocelli on the head and a distinctive, usually complex apical organ on the third antennal segment (Christiansen & Bellinger 1980). This organ has two sensory clubs that are smooth and curved towards one another in members of subfamily Tullberginae whereas they are smooth or tuberculate and not converging in Onychiurinae (Womersley 1939). The postantennal organ is absent in the genus Tetrodontophora which also has a well-developed furca (Womersley 1939).

Characters (from Womersley 1939): Eyes absent. Postantennal organ usually present, usually large, complex and situated in transverse groove behind antennal bases. Pseudocelli present. Third antennal sensory organ complex, composed of guard setae, papillae, sensory rods, and large sense clubs. Furca usually absent. Anal spines present or absent. Mandibles with molar area.
