Palaemonidae

Belongs within: Caridea.
Contains: Macrobrachium, Palaemonetes.

The Palaemonidae are a group of shrimps with well-developed, prominent chelae on the first pair of pereiopods, as well as normal chelae on the second pair. They have been divided between the largely free-living Palaemoninae and the commensal Pontoniinae. Pontoniine species are associated with a variety of hosts including sponges, corals and bivalves.
