The Phytodietini are a cosmopolitan group of large ichneumon wasps that develop as parasitoids of Lepidoptera (Gauld 1984).
Characters (from Gauld 1984): Propodeum smooth or transversely striate, without carinae or with posterior one represented by sublateral crests; posterior transverse carina of mesosternum absent except for lateral vestiges; tarsal claws pectinate to apices; gaster usually somewhat laterally compressed, tergite I with a glymma.
