Phytoseius is a genus of mostly plant-associated predatory mites with thickened dorsal setae (Krantz & Ainscough 1990). Setae J2 and R1 are present in members of the typical subgenus but absent in species of the subgenus Dubininellus. Some species of Phytoseius have been used in the control of plant-pest mites. Phytoseius rasilis has been recorded as a potential predator of ten different mite species in the Philippines (Corpuz-Raros 2002). Phytoseius aleuritus is common in China on apple crops. Phytoseius fujianensisP. hawaiiensis, P. hongkongensis, P. huqiuensis and P. minutus are associated with citrus (Wu & Lan 2001).
