Pionidae

The Pionidae are a diverse, cosmopolitan family of mites found in springs, streams and standing water bodies. Adults are markedly sexually dimorphic and may perform elaborate courtship rituals. Larvae are parasites on Chironomidae (Walter et al. 2009).
