Flustrella concentrica, from Ehrenberg (1854).

Belongs within: Stauraxonaria.

The Spongodiscidae are a group of radiolarians, known from the Late Cretaceous to the present, in which the skeleton is flattened or lenticular with the inner frame as a hollow sphere (Afanasieva et al. 2005).

Characters (from Afanasieva et al. 2005): Skeleton flattened or lenticular, inner frame in shape of hollow concentric sphere. Shell reticular, with concentric rings, or spongy, with irregularly built tissue or with densely spaced concentric or spiral rings. Spongy or chambered lobes may be developed.
