Thermomonosporaceae

Actinomadura meyerae, (a) colonies and (b) Gram-stain, from Bonnet et al. (2011).

Belongs within: Streptosporangiales.

The Thermomonosporaceae are filamentous bacteria producing aerial mycelia differentiating into single or short chains of spores or into spore vesicles that release motile spores (Goodfellow et al. 2012).

Characters (from Goodfellow et al. 2012): Aerobic, Gram-stain-positive, non-acid-alcohol-fast, chemoorganotrophic actinomycete. Stable, branched substrate mycelium carrying aerial mycelium. Aerial hyphae differentiating into single or short chains of arthrospores or into spore vesicles that release motile spores. Wall peptidoglycan of A1γ type, containing meso-diaminopimelic acid, N-acetylmuramic acid. Major phospholipids phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, and phosphatidylinositol mannosides. Containing hydrogenated menaquinones with nine isoprene units. Rich in mixtures of straight chain and branched fatty acids. Mycolic acids absent. Whole-organism hydrolysates usually containing madurose. G+C content 66–73%.
