The Xolalgidae are a group of astigmatine mites inhabiting the plumaceous feathers of a variety of bird orders (OConnor 2009).
Characters (from OConnor 2009): Rostral setae ro always absent; femora and genua fused in all legs; tarsi with proral setae absent; pretarsi I–II with ambulacral stalks shorter than tarsi; tibia III with seta v’ present, generally elongate; tibia IV without ventral seta; male with setae h2 simple, never dilated; female with hysterosomatic sclerite always interrupted anterior to posterior terminus of body.
